Our Heritage
A bag should outlast the moment you bought it.
FARFETCHD was founded in 2012 in Lyon, France, on a single conviction: that a well-made leather bag is not a luxury — it is a decision to stop buying the same thing twice.
Where We Come From
We started in Lyon, in a shared workshop on the Presquîle, making three bag styles. The first run was 40 pieces. We sold them through a single stockist and a small website. What we learned from those first customers set the direction for everything that followed: they wanted to know what the bag was made of, how it was made, and whether we would stand behind it if something went wrong.
We have been answering those three questions ever since.
Where We Make
Every FARFETCHD bag is made in Florence, Italy, in partnership with a family-run atelier in the Oltrarno district that has been producing leather goods since 1971. We work with a team of eight artisans. We visit four times a year. We know their names.
This is not a marketing arrangement. It is the only way we know how to guarantee the quality we promise.
What We Use
All leathers are full-grain and vegetable-tanned, sourced from tanneries in the Ponte a Egola district of Tuscany — a region with an unbroken tanning tradition stretching back over 500 years. Vegetable tanning uses plant-derived tannins rather than chromium salts. The process takes weeks instead of hours. The result is a leather that develops a patina with use, grows more characterful over time, and biodegrades cleanly at end of life.
We do not use bonded leather, PU coating, or chrome-tanned hides. We do not use the word “genuine” as a quality claim.
How We Build
Structural seams — handles, strap attachments, closures — are saddle-stitched by hand using linen thread. Body panels are machine-stitched to consistent tension. Hardware is solid brass, not plated zinc. Linings are cotton canvas or pig-suede, depending on the style.
Every bag is inspected before it leaves Florence. The rejection rate is approximately 8%. Those pieces are not sold at discount. They are returned and remade.
What We Promise
We repair any FARFETCHD bag, for any reason, free of charge, for as long as we exist as a company. This is not a limited warranty. It is a permanent commitment. We have repaired bags bought in our first year. We expect to be repairing bags bought this year in 2040.
We also offer a 30-day return window, no questions asked. We offer free shipping within Europe on orders over €200. We ship worldwide.
What We Are Not
We are not a heritage house. We do not have a century of history to point to. What we have is a clear point of view, consistent standards, and a record of keeping our promises.
We are not a fast-fashion brand that has added a “premium” line. Everything we make is made the same way, to the same standard. There is no entry-level tier.
We are not trying to compete with Hermès. We are trying to be the brand that makes sense when Hermès does not — when you want something made with the same seriousness, at a price that reflects the work rather than the waiting list.
