Frequently Asked Questions
Everything about our leather, how we make it, and how we stand behind it.
About Our Leather
What type of leather do FARFETCHD bags use?
Every FARFETCHD bag is made from full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather. Full-grain means the hide has not been sanded or corrected — you are using the strongest, most durable part of the animal hide. Vegetable tanning uses plant-derived tannins (oak bark, chestnut, mimosa) rather than chromium salts, producing a leather that develops a patina over time and ages gracefully with use.
Where does your leather come from?
Our leathers are sourced exclusively from tanneries in the Ponte a Egola district of Tuscany, Italy — a region with over 500 years of continuous tanning tradition. All tanneries are certified by the Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale, the Italian association for authentic vegetable-tanned leather.
Will the leather change colour over time?
Yes — this is intentional and desirable. Vegetable-tanned leather develops a patina with exposure to light, handling, and the natural oils of your skin. Over months and years, the leather deepens in tone and develops a character unique to how you use it. This is a quality, not a flaw.
Where & How We Make
Where are FARFETCHD bags made?
Every FARFETCHD bag is handcrafted in Florence, Italy, in the Oltrarno district. We work with a single family-run atelier that has been producing leather goods since 1971. We visit four times a year and maintain a direct relationship with the artisans who make our bags.
Are FARFETCHD bags hand-stitched?
Structural seams — handles, strap attachments, and closures — are saddle-stitched by hand using linen thread. Body panels are precision machine-stitched. Hardware is solid brass throughout.
How is FARFETCHD different from a luxury heritage brand?
The materials and construction are comparable to major luxury houses. The difference is in what you are paying for: with a heritage brand, a significant portion covers brand equity, distribution, and marketing. At FARFETCHD, the price reflects the cost of the leather, the labour, and a reasonable margin. We are not selling a waiting list.
Sizing & Fit
Which bag is best for everyday use?
For everyday carry, we recommend the Petite Chaîne Crossbody (fits phone, cards, keys, small notebook) or the Milano Tote (fits a 13″ laptop and daily essentials). The crossbody works hands-free; the tote is the better choice if you carry more.
Do you offer a size guide?
Yes. Each product page includes exact interior and exterior dimensions in centimetres, along with what fits inside described in practical terms. If you have a specific question about capacity, contact us — we will answer the same day.
Care & Repair
How do I care for my FARFETCHD bag?
Wipe clean with a slightly damp cloth and air dry naturally — never use direct heat. Condition every 6–12 months with a beeswax or lanolin-based leather conditioner. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight. Store in the dust bag provided when not in use.
What is the FARFETCHD lifetime repair policy?
We repair any FARFETCHD bag, for any reason, free of charge, for as long as we exist as a company. This includes stitching, hardware replacement, strap repair, and structural damage. You pay only for return shipping. No time limit, no registration required. Contact us at repairs@farfetchd.com.
